The MOTOR Pedal is a fully playable electro-mechanical synth voice that tracks your pitch in real time. Use it as a drone that doubles your lines, or as a ring-mod or cross-modulation engine for your signal. This isn’t an emulation or analog modeling – it’s the authentic sound of a spinning brushed DC motor, pushed to the edge and tamed with precision control.
Real Motor, Real Sound
The MOTOR Pedal uses a real-time pitch tracker to analyze your instrument’s output. Whether it’s guitar, bass, or even a microphone, the motor’s rotational speed precisely matches the fundamental frequency you’re playing. For example, at 440Hz input, the motor spins at 146 revolutions per second, activating magnetic pickups and sensors three times per rotation. A calibrated inductor captures the motor’s motion, transforming mechanical energy into a raw electric audio signal.
Unique Features & Modes
- Foot Pedal: Innovative pedal with normal and floor-it ranges, plus five expressive pedal modes.
- Motor: Raw electromagnetic pickup of the spinning coils – glitchy, growling, magnetic.
- MXD: Cross-modulation with a digital waveform for harsh, distorted, metallic textures.
- M-Wave: Pitch-locked digital oscillator hard-synced to the motor’s output, creating a multitimbral synth voice with mechanical character.
- Coil Mode: Injects alternating current into the motor coils for resonant vibrations and metallic hums.
- Vocoder Mode: 24-band digital vocoder using the motor’s output as the carrier and your instrument as the modulator.
Expanded Controls
- Analog Tone Boost: Tilt EQ for shaping motor output.
- Dual Volume: Independent control for dry and motor signals.
- Motor Drive: Heavy analog distortion for motor output.
- Envelope: From staccato stabs to long releases with envelope follower.
- Glide: Portamento-style pitch curve.
- Vibrato: Classic pitch modulation, subtle to extreme.
- Motor Interval Selector: Offset pitch by ±1 octave, perfect fifths, or fourths.
- X-Mod Mode: Amplitude modulation with all motor engines.
- Accelerator: Wide pitch shifts or extreme motor redlining.
- Brake: Downward pitch shifts or complete motor stall.
- Clutch: Disconnect motor from pitch tracker to create drones.
- Volume: Use the spring-loaded pedal for smooth swells.
- Drift: Gentle vibrato-like modulation or full signal wipeout.
Power & Connectivity
- Powered by standard 9V DC center-negative power supply (500mA minimum, not included).
- 5-pin and USB-C MIDI functionality for advanced control.
Replaceable Motor Block
The MOTOR Pedal’s core engine is a custom brushed DC electromotor block. Over time, the brushes naturally wear down. A check engine light indicates when replacement is needed (orange → red). The motor block has an estimated lifespan of 3,000–5,000 hours of intensive use and can be replaced easily, much like swapping tubes in an amplifier.
