Squier Precision Bass (serial JV95027), made in Japan in 1984 — a rare 32" medium-scale variant. Black finish with a pearloid pickguard and rosewood fretboard. Notably lightweight at just 3.4kg, making it exceptionally comfortable to play for extended sessions. Shows some dings and scratches consistent with its age. Great playing condition.
There's a whole lot of mystique and fanfare surrounding the legendary JV-serial instruments; they're certainly a significant part of the Fender story as well as being brilliant pieces of craftsmanship. Fender was experiencing some major turbulence when this was made: production in Fender's Fullerton USA plant shut down in 1984. The quality of the first Fender and Squier branded instruments coming out the Fujigen Gakki plant in 1983 was generally far superior to later CBS-era USA made instruments, so these were greeted with elation worldwide at the time and have since continued to grow in acclaim and desirability. Basses from this period are far less numerous than Strats and Teles, so this is certainly quite the find.
Squier Precision Bass - JV Series, Medium Scale 32" (1984, Made in Japan)
This is a Squier Precision Bass produced in Japan in 1984 at the Fuji Gen Gakki factory. The JV serial prefix marks the very first run of Squier instruments, built between 1982 and 1984, and is widely regarded by collectors and players as offering exceptional build quality and faithful vintage specifications at a fraction of the cost of an original Fender.
This example is a rare 32" medium-scale variant, occasionally seen in mid-1980s Squier/Fender Japan production. It offers a slightly shorter reach and easier fretboard navigation than the standard 34" long-scale P-Bass, while retaining the punch and character of the classic Precision Bass tone — appealing to players with smaller hands or those transitioning from guitar.
This example features a classic black finish paired with a pearloid pickguard, giving it a timeless, vintage-correct look. The neck is fitted with a rosewood fretboard, delivering warm, rounded tone with smooth playability. At just 3.4kg, this is a notably lightweight example, making it especially comfortable for long playing sessions or gigging.
As expected for a genuine 41-year-old instrument, it shows some dings and scratches consistent with age and honest use. These are cosmetic only and reflect the bass's history rather than any functional issue — see photos for a full picture of its condition.
