Towers features a resonant low-pass filter inspired by classic vintage synthesizers, producing warm, ringing tones that layer deep atmosphere into its reverberated echoes. Acting as your spectral guide, the filter frequency offers three distinct operational modes that shape how the sound evolves across the stereo field.
In Manual Mode, the Frequency control gives you direct command over the filter, creating opposing movements between the left and right channels for wide, immersive motion. Envelope Mode converts playing dynamics into expressive filter movement—each pick attack drives harmonic resonance while the Frequency control sets envelope sensitivity. LFO Mode hands control to a slow-moving oscillator that sweeps the filter across the stereo image, with the Frequency knob adjusting the rate of motion for hypnotic, evolving textures.
Towers can be dramatically transformed using the Stretch feature, a unique process that slows the internal processor to double the reverb length. This creates a lo-fi degradation where delay lines are pulled apart, filters smear, and frequency responses drop, revealing musical artifacts and unexpected textures. Engaging Stretch momentarily introduces instant transformation, while holding the footswitch gradually drags the entire system into warped, ambient decay—ideal for creating evolving soundscapes and dramatic transitions.
Eight user-assignable presets allow you to save and recall your most inspiring settings instantly, making Towers equally powerful in live performance and studio environments.
Designed as more than an effect, Towers is an instrument for exploration—bridging conventional signal processing with experimental sound design. It is proudly built by the skilled tone technicians of EarthQuaker Devices along the historic Ohio & Erie Canal in Akron, Ohio.
Controls & Functions
-
Mix – Balances dry signal with the effected sound.
-
Length – Adjusts reverb length; also controls Stretch speed as a secondary function.
-
Filter – Sets how much resonant low-pass filtering is introduced into the reverb path.
-
Frequency – Controls filter frequency, sensitivity, or rate depending on the selected mode.
-
Mode Switch – Three-position toggle:
-
Manual – Frequency manually controls stereo-opposed filter movement.
-
Envelope – Filter reacts to picking dynamics; Frequency adjusts sensitivity.
-
LFO – Slow oscillator sweeps the filter across the stereo field; Frequency controls rate.
-
-
Preset Selector – Chooses one of eight user presets.
-
Activate Footswitch – Effect on/off.
-
Stretch Footswitch – Slows the entire system, doubling reverb length and introducing pitch and spectral transformation.
